Since birth, you have created deep associations with color. Think about the pinks, reds, oranges and yellows of Grandma’s garden … the lush greens and rich browns of a forest when you were camping … the cool blues of the sky and sea on a visit to the beach. Color has stimulated your sight, enhanced your mood and enriched your life experience.
Use color, your imagination and design goals as a foundation to build the environment you desire. Begin to form structure by pushing or pulling space, emphasizing or de-emphasizing objects, adding texture, line and color.
Warm tones (reds, oranges, tans) and dynamic patterns command attention and “advance” themselves towards the viewer. Cool tones (blues, greens, grays), and monochromatic fields with no patterns are relaxing and appear to “recede” from the eye.
Design choices are neither right nor wrong. The goal is to decorate with complementing tones and hues of color, adding texture or pattern where desired for contrast or balance. |
